The Surprise …

Once in a while we need a surprise in our lives to jazz up the odd, and boring routine that we have in our journeys …

I’ve been busy –way too busy, preparing for our business unit’s product demo in our company’s Expo Demo event that took place yesterday. And I didn’t even have time to post yesterday.  I must say, it was an interesting experience in my career pretending to be a Marketing folk for a day.
The road leading up to yesterday was pretty rough –long and tedious. The person who was responsible to pass on the information to me was not very responsive –typical enterprise employee. And I was responsible to talk about the product that I nearly know nothing about. Sometimes I wonder why I persist …

So, between pausing and taking notes listening to the video that was sent to me –I put together a demo. Every last bit of problems were there up until the night before the demo. I was panic and made whole bunch of mistakes but then all of the sudden my knowledge was doubled perhaps quadrupled –standing at my booth at 10:30 pm the night before yesterday feeling as my light bulb was brighter than ever.

Yesterday came and ready as I was. People started to show up at our Demo booth and then –talking and interacting with people seem so natural to me. (I wonder if I am in the wrong field all this time :-) )
Before I knew it, I was talking pretty much non-stop for hours –I was standing and demoing for about 6 hours or so. At the end of the day, time for award has approached. We have two booths and internally we had decided to let our sister booth have the vote –and we would share the prize if we were chosen.

Runner up was called then the third award winner... Time for second award winner –silence as we were-- speechless.

As we guessed it though still came as a big surprise that we have actually won 1st prize on two different categories (people choice and geek.) All of the hard work was definitely paid off.

Wait, second award!Yes! Unexpectedly, our booth has won 2nd prize despite we had sent all of the traffics who came to our booth to vote for our sister booth but yet … --Somehow, somewhere the visitors decided we deserved some votes :-) As one of my coworker told me yesterday evening–he said, “Booth #53 (our booth) was the true winner because we didn’t ask for it and yet people vote for it” Between our sister's booth and ours, we have walked away with three awards (1st and 2nd prize for People Choice and 1st prize for the Geek awards :-)) --Way too awesome!

And that to me was the needed surprise in my career …

Until next stop,
Journey of Life
