Guardian Angels …

I was drown literally in stress and on the verge of crying. Every corner I turned to, it seemed to have reached a dead end. I was pressed for time, and it didn’t matter what I did that day, everything went wrong and the last straw?—exit to my office building was blocked.

Yes, how could that happen? I swapped interview time with one of my coworkers and I was supposed to go at 1:30 pm instead of 2:30 pm. And the time drew closer and closer and I almost made it after sitting on a traffic and the exit to my office was closed. How could that be? An exit was closed out of nowhere?  Yes. it was wide opened in the morning but not at the time when I needed the most. I almost burst out in tears …

But then, something strange happened, thing just worked out and no-one even noticed that I was missing for 1:30 pm interview slot. My name was listed for 2;30 pm. Isn’t this strange? Somehow someone just managed to cover it up for me.  And this was not the first time. Each time, when the door closes on me, somehow a window opens somewhere …. Do you believe an guardian angel is somewhere watching over me?

I always managed to get out of trouble no matter what happened to me and those moments when I was virtually taken over by frustration and hope… somehow things would just worked out the way it should be? –Could that be coincidence?

I dunno. The question is … Do you believe in guardian angels?

Hope you enjoy this journey of mine visiting guardian angels—my story about my guardian angel.

Believe It or Not …

I recalled it was in the winter and my father had just passed away. It was kind of a hazy morning. As usual I was running late that morning. Someone was with me but somehow I couldn’t seem to visualize her face clearly. And she was waiting for me as we were supposed to catch a bus to take us somewhere. Somewhere that was promised by this old man. As we were running to the bus stop, the bus just left without us.

All of the sudden, I was awoken. Oh my gosh, what has just happened … I thought to myself. Apparently it was just a dream. I dreamt about a very peculiar old man asking me if I wanted to meet my father. I nodded in contentment ‘cause he left us to another world but I never got to see him go. I didn’t know what this meant, but I was wide awake. I supposed it was just a dream after all.

That morning, after I've gotten ready, I arrived at our small kitchen in our apartment where my roommate and I shared. I started to cook something. I think it was an omelet or some sort. I wasn’t quite myself after that weird dream. All of the sudden, instead of pouring the oil out, I put the hot pan into the water with the hot oil. And fire alighted from the hot pan. My roommate saw the pan was in blazing fire and before I could process everything. She shouted, “Angela. Run!”

Guess what I did?! I ran alright. I did run for my life but I carried the hot pan that was on fire with me. Now thinking back it must have been a very funny scene, but it wasn’t. It was such a chaotic experience. And the worst of all… the whole ceiling was filled with blackened smoke. And I still don’t get how the whole apartment wasn’t on fire.

According to the somewhat ‘Believe It or Not,’ explanation, the old man in the dream was supposed to take me with him to meet my dad. I was supposed to be in the bus that would carry the living to the land of the death. Do you think if I was not late and left with the bus, the apartment would have caught on fire? And the girl on the dream, was she my ex-roommate? Do you think that I may not be here talking to you now if everything were to happen? The mystery remains. Believe or Not!

Hope you enjoy this journey with me revisiting my unusual experience and my odd dream. It is up to you to believe or not ...but the mystery remains.

Open Your Home to Strangers—And See the World

Never invite strangers to your house. That what our mothers would say! Not anymore!
Have you heard about home exchange programs? Exchanging your own nests with someone’s  half way across the world. Interesting idea and perhaps a little bit unusual to some of us. –Unthinkable! I say.

But, it is being done and in fact according to the author of the article in the Wall Street Journal, there are “… two networks, homeexchange.com and homelink.org. The former has 39,000 members in 146 countries; the latter has 13,000 members. We have done about half of our exchanges with each site.”  --cited from http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204276304577263621466315472.html

The author has done it for thirty-two times since 2006. Here is how it works, you list your house up for exchange. Then find the right people in the right location to exchange. If you want to stay in London, and the people who live in London want to come to your location for vacation. Then you are in luck.
There are few detailed to be work out, according to the author:

Negotiable Demands
You would list your preference such as no pets, no children or perhaps limiting number of people and such. The stricter you are, the less chance you would find your criteria to be met.

A Month Is Good
The author preference is one month. I suppose you could put however long you want to be. But, the longer you let same strangers live the house. It is probably not desirable. But then, this is all about your preference and how you work out the details.

Small Worries
Last minutes cancellation due to financial difficulty, or medical conditions are often the reasons of things don’t work out the way it should be.  Another worry according to the author is the cleanliness of the house that you are exchanging with and the way they left your house behind. –Something to consider.

Another advantage of house exchange is you are saving your lodging fees which can be a lot.

Hope you enjoy this journey visiting the exchanging your very own nest to see the world. Now the question is, Are you ready to let strangers into your house? Living there like your own family? –I am not sure how I personally feel at this moment. Nevertheless, something to think about!

What would be the one thing that I would do again?

Last Wednesday, I had a blast listening to the table topics that we had at our toastmaster group. It was one of the best table topics that I've attended so far. The lady who was the Table Topics Master for that night said that assuming 2012 is the year of the doom, what would the audiences do based on the questions she asked.

Here are some of the sample questions she asked, “If you are given one day to be an immortal person, what would you do?” and “If if you were given a chance to know when would be the time for you to die, would you want to know or not and why?”

One of the guest speakers won the ‘The Best Table Topic Speaker,” that very nite. He said, “If he was given a chance to know when would be the day that he would die. He would want to know the answer because that would give him a chance to do something daring and bold. He also mentioned that he read Steve Job’s biography and one of the reasons why Steve Jobs always did his best was because somehow he knew that he wouldn’t live long.

After listening to all of the questions from the table topics, I somehow found one question for myself.
If I died today and was given another chance to live, what would be the one thing that I would again?

Interesting! Before I answer that very question … let me take you to a conversation that had happened between a wife and her husband.

So, the wife asked, “If you died today and when you entered the land of the death, an angel welcomed you and said that you shouldn't have died so you are given another chance to live. Before you leave the land of the death, you have a choice to drink a sacred water where you would forget everything you had in the past life and start a brand new life. The question is would you drink the sacred water?"

And this silly husband answered, “No, I will not drink the sacred water.”
And the wife asked again curiously, “Why?”
His answer was, “‘cause I don’t want to forget the people that I love.”
The wife was touched, “You mean … you don’t want to forget me and the girls?”

I know what I would do. How about you?

Do you think this boy didn't drink the water?
