9-11 and Us –Moving on…

Not sure the fact that 9-11 is the same number with our emergency number 911, is a pure coincidence or not, but despite being totally different, they both signify important numbers for us who live in the US. I remember 11 years ago when it happened. I was dropping my girl to school and on my way out, there was a flag ceremony in the field. I stopped to pay my respect and what I heard was beyond belief. That was the beginning of the terror and I didn’t even know how to communicate with my girls as they were too young to understand. All I recalled was those tears of mine rolling down involuntarily and I didn’t know how to stop them.

Just like 9-11 tragic that hit us, the US and the world, there are some tragic that happen to us personally either in relationship or lives. Sometimes some news hit us like a hurricane –be the loss of a someone dearly to the death or breaking up in relationships. There are no words to signify how we are feeling –tight knot were squeezing our hearts and leaving us --feeling suffocated. Again, some tears were rolling down involuntarily and we don’t know how to stop them.

Today, who would have thought that how 9-11 have changed the world. We have become –different but stronger/safer place. One could argue otherwise, however, being an optimistic I would like to focus on the upside. The world have come together as one in fighting the unknown of the danger. We forego our personal problems and focus on THE problem.

Just like 9-11, sometimes our personal losses –whatever those might be, they seemed like huge problems that are hard to tackle at those given moments. Give them some time and someday when we look back. It would be the past and we would become –different but stronger. if we can pause and picture how the we, the world, have overcome the 9-11 terror. We know that we can move on. If the world can, so can us!

And yes! --Moving on doesn't mean we forget, we just accept the fact and continue living.

Until next stop,
Journey of Life

  2. 9/11 did change us. for a short time, for the better, overall, I'm not so sure. We seem or feel more divided right now than in a very long time. I crave that unity and the all-for-one and one-for-all that was prevalent following the attack. It was good. The flags flying on nearly house and business, though much of that has remained, made me feel safer, more part of my country.

The tears will always come easily when I speak of or write of or hear of America and her strength and freedom.

    1. Yeah ... Unfortunately the divider was always there but it became more solid/clear after the incidents. Good news, the rest of the world seems to join forces to overcome the divider.

  3. A few years ago we had an attack in our city too - life came to a standstill then as it did for you on 9/11. Days that changed our lives for sure...I wish we would all learn and remember the lessons that these experiences have taught us - to reach out, to understand others and to value our freedom.

  4. 9/11 did change the US. I will never forget it. It was so awful to watch on TV and realize that was happening here in our country. It was a wake up call in America that terrorist activity can indeed touch us as well.
